We made it in on Sunday. It was a long trip with three flights and 30 bags but we survived. We had several minor issues come up but HE worked them out beautifully. On Wednesday, our house FINALLY closed! We are so relieved and thankful that we are now free from commitments back home. Today is Thursday of our first week and I think we are almost over the jet lag. So far, we have met our small team, unpacked, eaten out, cooked from scratch, grocery shopped (which isn’t easy), ridden 2 kinds of buses, the subway, and walked what feels like a 1000 miles up hill. It has all been good and we are so excited to be here. We are starting our language school tomorrow. Thom and I are in the same class and the kids will have a lady come to the apartment and watch them. She doesn’t speak any English so I know there will be an adjustment period for all of us.
Today we were sitting down with the kids talking about all that has happened and explaining what they can expect for the next several weeks. During our discussion, L who just turned 6 said, “are we on the field now or are we going to be on the field later?” We laughed and realized that no matter how hard you try to help your kids adjust, sometimes it is just confusing. She has been through a lot in the last 6 months and I guess she isn’t as clear on what is going on as we had thought.
Please remember to lift us up as we try and get adjusted to our new life. We haven’t met many people yet but that will take time because we can’t talk to anyone yet. We are looking forward to the adventures ahead of us. Thanks for reading this. We’ll keep you posted.
